One of New Zealand's leading financial services companies, AXA New Zealand, has taken over as naming sponsor of the New Zealand International Sevens.

The 2004 tournament, to be held at Westpac Stadium in Wellington on February 6-7, will be known as the AXA New Zealand International Sevens.

AXA General Manager Marketing Liz Dawson said the company was delighted to be the new sponsor of the New Zealand International Sevens.

"Not only is the AXA New Zealand International Sevens one of the country's premier sporting events, it's wonderful entertainment and huge fun. That's a great fit with AXA's attitude of being confident and living life."

"We're really looking forward to supporting and being associated with this event."

AXA New Zealand International Sevens Tournament Director Steve Dunbar said it was fantastic having the company on board.

"As all the fans know, the tournament is a fun, action-packed event which is not to be missed and it's great to have AXA as the naming sponsor. The IRB endorsed last year's tournament as one of the best in the world and I'm sure AXA will enjoy their association," he said.

Planning for the AXA New Zealand International Sevens is entering its final stages with the draw for the weekend out recently. New Zealand is in the same pool as Samoa, Korea and Niue with England, South Africa and Fiji top seeds in the other pools.

The teams competing at the AXA New Zealand International Sevens are New Zealand, England, Australia, Kenya, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Korea, Niue, South Africa, Argentina, USA, Tonga, Fiji, France, Canada and Cook Islands.
