Aussie seven prepare for America
January 29, 2004

The Ricoh Australian Sevens team is in Sydney preparing for the inaugural Los Angeles Sevens, which takes place on 14/15 February.

This will be the first time an IRB Sevens tournament will be played in USA, breaking new ground for the game.

At the moment the Australian team are preparing for the Welllington Sevens in New Zealand on 6/7 February.

The team has gone into camp in Sydney this week, with three new faces announced in the side - Daniel Halangahu (Sydney University), Rex Tapuai (Randwick) and Josh Fuimaono (Gold Coast).

Bill Millard, the Australian Sevens coach said speaking to the ARU that the next two tournaments would be a big challenge for the young side.

"We have selected another very young team from our core group of developing players. There are only three guys in this team over the age of 21, so our focus is on player development, experience and gradual improvement.

"We struggled a little in the Dubai and George tournaments, but the team gained valuable exposure to the pace and power of seven-a-side rugby at the top level.

"Our main aim is to improve on those results and make better rugby players out of these young guys with the view to preparing them for Super 12 or even Test level in coming years.
