Williams gets sevens call
March 24, 2004

Harlequins and England Under-21 squad member Tom Williams has been called up to the England squad for the IRB World Sevens Series, which starts on Friday.

Williams has been called up with Henry Paul caught up in a club-versus-country row, with Gloucester claiming they do not have to release the former rugby league star for the event.

RFU performance director Chris Spice said: "The tournament will provide some excellent experience for Tom and we're confident that playing in Hong Kong will enhance his development."

However, he warned: "Should Henry be selected, by Gloucester, during the Hong Kong tournament or for 10 days thereafter they will be open to the sanctions and penalties pursuant to IRB regulations."
