England lost the IRB Emirates Sevens final 28-19 to New Zealand in Bordeaux tonight.

Inspirational England captain Simon Amor opened the scoring from a tap penalty, chip-kicking over the defence and winning the race against Amasio Valence. Ben Gollings missed the conversion for a 5-0 scoreline.

His opposite number Liam Messam levelled the scores as the All Blacks swept on to the attack and Valence raised the flags for a 7-5 lead.

Eighteen-year-old Tanirau Latimer raced under the posts as England turned over possession, with Justin Wilson adding the conversion. Henry Paul hit back for England scored on the buzzer, with Gollings converting, to reduce the deficit to 12-14 at half-time.

Early in the second spell Paul fell off a tackle on Messam, allowing the first-time skipper to score his second and extend the lead to 21-12.

Sosene Anesi scored next for New Zealand after racing down the touchline and Wilson could have put the result beyond doubt but lost the ball forward over the line.
Substitute Kai Horstmann scored a late try for England.
