Four changes in young England squad
June 4, 2004
Injuries have forced England in to four changes in their Under 21 World Championship squad Mark Hopley and Magnus Lund have both dropped out of the pack meaning that Chris Cracknell from NEC Harlequins and Richard Thorpe of London Irish will now take their place in the squad. An injury to Northampton Saints' full back Jon Clarke means he will be replaced by London Irish's Delon Armitage. Scrum half Richard Wigglesworth (Sale Sharks) has also been ruled out due to injury, paving the way for his Sharks' team mate Joe Bedford. "Delon's performances for London Irish at wing or full back have shown he has a lot of promise and I'm sure he will thrive on this opportunity. Richard unfortunately will not be fit either and his Sharks team mate, Joe Bedford, will join the squad before moving to Saracens next season," said England U21 manager, Peter Drewett, "The back row berths left open by injuries to Magnus Lund, who played a big part in the Six Nations campaign, and Mark Hopley, will be filled by Chris Cracknell from NEC Harlequins and Richard Thorpe of London Irish, who will be keen to make the most of this opportunity."
