June 26, 2004

Former Leicester Director of Rugby Dean Richards has been appointed coach of Grenoble.

Richards, who was sacked from his job at Welford Road in February, replaces Jacques Delmas, after Grenoble finished third from bottom in their first season back in the top flight.

Club president Alain Etievent revealed that Delmas had been sacked because of a "difference of philosophy".
"They didn't even bother telling me," Delmas said Friday. Pierre Tremouille will be Richards assistant while Gareth Adamson will be fitness coach.

Grenoble just avoiding relegation, and lost their last match of the season 81-17 to Pau.

Richards, had led Leicester to seven trophies in six years including four straight English Premiership titles and back-to-back European Cups.

But there was no silverware for the last two seasons and Richards left after 23 years at the club.
