Mapusua recalled for Pacific Islanders
July 14, 2004

Samoan centre Seilala Mapusua was recalled to the Pacific Islanders team today for Saturday's test against South Africa in Gosford, Australia.

Mapusua missed last weekend's match with New Zealand after he was banned for a dangerous tackle on Australia captain George Gregan the previous week but has been immediately recalled.

Brian Lima, who replaced Mapusua in the 41-26 loss to the All Blacks, was relegated back to the bench in one of four changes to the starting line-up.

Fijian Norman Ligairi was recalled at fullback for Seru Rabeni, who replaced Seremaia Bai at inside centre, while Fijian Sireli Bobo was promoted to start at wing at the expense of Samoa's Lome Fa'atau.

Coach John Boe made just one change to the forward pack with Tevita Taumoepeau replacing his fellow Tongan Taufa'ao Filise at tighthead prop.

Bai and Filise were both retained as replacements while Cook Islander Tu Tamarua was added to the bench.

Pacific Islanders captain, Inoke Afeaki of Tonga, is in doubt for Saturday's match with a foot injury. Samoan Filipo Levi will replace him in the starting side if he is forced out.

The Pacific Islanders were given permission by the International Rugby Board this year to form a united team to play tests against Australia, New Zealand and South Africa to raise revenue for the region.
