Second half comeback not enough for NSW A
February 25, 2005

A determined second half showing wasn't enough to stop NSW A going down to the Brumby Runners 38 points to 17 earlier today at Sydney's TG Millner Field.

In sweltering conditions, the visitors took the lead after just four minutes and never relinquished it, heading into the break ahead 19 points to nil.

Two first half tries to winger Eddie McLaughlin and one to Julian Salvi handed the Runners the buffer at the change, and despite a renewed effort in the second forty, NSW A wasn't able to bridge the gap.

Skipper Stephen Hoiles led the way in a beaten NSW A side, scoring his side's final try and setting up another by Lei Tomiki. Josh Holmes bagged the home side's other five pointer.

For the visitors, reserve winger Alexander Peden scored a second-half double, with centre Henari Veratau scoring the last of the Runners tries in their six tries to three victory.

NSW A 17 - Josh Holmes, Lei Tomiki, Stephen Hoiles tries; Cameron Shepherd 1 conversion.

Brumby Runners 38 - Eddie McLaughlin 2, Alexander Peden 2, Julian Salvi, Henari Veratau tries; Salvi 4 conversions.

At TG Millner Field, Eastwood.
