How the Lions players performed

JASON ROBINSON: A nervy game from the England player. Was wayward with his kicking and struggled to deal with the kick-through from the All Blacks. 5

JOSH LEWSEY: Another who never settled well and fumbled the ball even when not under pressure. Failed to halt Sitiveni Sivivatu's run to the tryline. 5

BRIAN O'DRISCOLL: Lasted a minute before going off with dislocated left shoulder and denied the chance to show his leadership skills.

JONNY WILKINSON: Had a mixed game. His kicking game misfired but never shirked making the tackles in midfield. Rarely had good ball with which to work. 5

GARETH THOMAS: Barely saw the ball and never really had a chance to get into the game but made a try-saving tackle on Rodney So'oialo in the first half. 6

STEPHEN JONES: Could do little to stop Ali Williams' charge to the line but missed the initial tackle which led to Sivivatu's try. Failed to set his mark on the game and some of his kicking options were poor. 6

DWAYNE PEEL: A livewire in the early stages but never had a platform to work from. 6

MARTIN CORRY: Assumed the captaincy from O'Driscoll. Led from the front and worked tirelessly. Was steady at the back of the scrum. 7

NEIL BACK: Had a quiet game by his standards as the forwards failed to exert any dominance. 5

RICHARD HILL: Was in the thick of the action for the 18 minutes he lasted before injuring his knee in the tackle. 6

BEN KAY: Was out-played by opposite number Williams in a malfunctioning line-out. 5.

PAUL O'CONNELL: Was no match for Chris Jack at line-out time. Didn't help the Lions cause with a spell in the sin bin. 4

JULIAN WHITE: Had the measure of Tony Woodcock in the scrum, especially when the pack was down to seven men. 6

SHANE BYRNE: Had a poor game. Couldn't find his man in the lineout and aside from one burst down the touchline never got the ball in his hands. 5

GETHIN JENKINS: Had a good tussle with Hayman. Worked tirelessly on defence 6.

STEVE THOMPSON: Got just over 20 minutes but it was too late for it to matter. 5

DANNY GREWCOCK: Made little impact in his 20 minutes on the pitch. 5.

RYAN JONES: Made a big impression coming on for the injured Hill. Made a number of crucial tackles and was dynamic in the loose. 7

MATT DAWSON: Only got six minutes, not enough to affect the result. 5

WILL GREENWOOD: Forced into action early. Had a jittery moment near his own goal line, got little chance on attack but was resolute in defence. 6

SHANE HORGAN: Another in a backline that lacked attacking flair 5.
