McLaughlin ready for Glasgow
July 20, 2005

Prolific try-scorer Eddie McLaughlin will play his final match for the
Canberra Vikings on Saturday before heading to Scotland on a four-month trial contract with Glasgow.

The 25-year-old New Zealand-born winger was a revelation last season for Canberra with 12 tries and the team's best back award. After his impressive debut season, McLaughlin was awarded a training contract with ACT Brumbies for the 2005 Super 12 season.

But McLaughlin, who has close family ties with Scotland, has linked up withGlasgow and will be pushing to secure a permanent contract in time for the Heineken Cup, set to kick-off in October.

``It will be disappointing to leave the Vikings. It's a close group and we've gelled together nicely so it's disappointing to be leaving at this point in the season when we're sitting at the top of the table,'' McLaughlin told PA

``Playing in Scotland is something that I've always wanted to do. My family is from there and it was an opportunity that was too good for me to pass up. Ultimately my goal is to perform well for the Celtic League Cup and earn a place in the squad for the Heineken Cup.

``Firstly though I'm looking forward to having one more win with the Vikings this weekend and enjoying my last game with a great bunch of blokes.''
