Wallabies make two changes
November 17, 2005

Australia have made two changes to their starting lineup for Saturday's Test against Ireland at Lansdowne Road in Dublin, with Greg Holmes and David Fitter both set to start in a Test match for the first time.

Holmes, who made his debut off the bench against France in Marseille, replaces the injured Matt Dunning at loosehead prop, while 28-year-old Fitter comes into the starting lineup at the expense of fellow tighthead Al Baxter, who moves onto the reserves.

The rest of the forward pack is unchanged, with the Hugh McMeniman partnering vice captain Nathan Sharpe at lock, while John Roe, Phil Waugh and George Smith will again combine in the backrow.

Scrumhalf and Captain, George Gregan will link up with Mat Rogers in the Number 10 jersey, while the centre pairing of Morgan Turinui and Lote Tuqiri remains the same for the fourth Test in a row.

In the outside backs, 21-year-old Drew Mitchell will look to continue his good form alongside Mark Gerrard on the wing, with Chris Latham solidly entrenched in the fullback position.

In the reserves, Tatafu Polota-Nau keeps his places in the 22 along with Mark Chisholm and Scott Fava ,while two changes in the back reserves see scrumhalf Matt Henjak come into the 22 at the expense of Chris Whitaker, and Wendell Sailor returning with Matt Giteau unavailable for selection due to injury.

Coach Eddie Jones says the changes in the Wallaby front row will provide both Holmes and Fitter with a good opportunity.

"While Matt Dunning is coming along well he's just not ready to play at the moment so Greg Holmes will get a chance to start at loosehead. We also feel David Fitter deserves the opportunity at tighthead, after making some good progress on tour and he's a bloke who is very passionate about scrumaging," said Jones.

"Chris Whitaker has done extremely well on tour and it was a tough call to make, but we feel it's time to give Henjak an opportunity. He has worked very hard, both on and off the field, and thoroughly deserves his chance on Saturday."
