Nominees named for New Zealand awards
December 16, 2005

The list of nominees for the New Zealand Rugby Awards at Auckland on February 9 have been released.

The nominees for the Team of the Year award are the All Blacks, who achieved a Grand Slam, won the Tri-Nations and also beat the touring British and Irish Lions; the Black Ferns, who beat England twice; the Super 12-winning Crusaders and New Zealand Maori, who also beat the Lions, as well as Fiji.

Graham Henry has been nominated for Coach of the Year together with Crusaders coach Robbie Deans and outgoing New Zealand Maori coach Matt Te Pou.

The players nominated for the top player award, the Kelvin R Tremain Memorial Player of the Year, are Daniel Carter -- last year's winner -- and All Blacks teammates Jerry Collins and Keven Mealamu.

Carter is also a nominee for Super 12 Player of the Year together with his Crusaders teammate Rico Gear and Highlanders stalwart Anton Oliver.

The nominees for Air New Zealand NPC Division One Player of the Year are Taranaki flanker Chris Masoe, North Harbour lock Greg Rawlinson and Otago halfback Chris Smylie.

The judges for the awards were All Blacks selector Sir Brian Lochore, former All Blacks manager John Sturgeon, former All Blacks captain and past New Zealand Rugby Union president Tane Norton and veteran journalist and author, Bob Howitt.
