Waratahs name squad for S14 opener
February 7, 2006

Will Caldwell will make his Super 14 debut fror the New South Wales Waratahs when he packs down with Daniel Vickerman in the second row against the Queensland Reds on Saturday night.

Caldwell is the only non-Wallaby in the Waratah pack which is led by vice-captain Phil Waugh in the Tooheys New Super 14 opener in Brisbane.

"I came close to getting on last year but to be making my debut against Queensland is a great honour," said Caldwell who made his state debut against Scotland in 2004.

"I've always looked up to Dan (Daniel Vickerman) so I'm especially pleased to be playing alongside him."

Impressive early season form has seen Tim Donnelly win the run-on flyhalf role with Sam Norton-Knight starting at fullback.

Wendell Sailor has been selected on the wing while the Test pairing of Turinui and Tuqiri make up the centres.

"It was definitely a tough day at the office in terms of selection," said head coach Ewen McKenzie.

"We've had to make some difficult calls including a 5-2 forward split on the bench.

"But I'm pretty happy with the make up of the squad."

The HSBC Waratahs have named a 26-man touring squad that will travel to Brisbane on Wednesday, then following the Templeton Cup clash, fly to South Africa for games against the Stormers and Bulls.
