Flavell back in Blue
February 23, 2006

The Blues have named rangy forward Troy Flavell in their side to take on the Queensland Reds in round three of the Super 14 on Saturday night in Brisbane.

Flavell, who recently finished a playing contract in Japan, has been called up by Blues coach David Nucifora after regular forward Justin Collins was injured in last week's defeat to the Highlanders.

It will the first Super rugby match since 2003 for the tough, uncompromising Flavell, who will play at blindside flanker.

With injured veteran forward Angus MacDonald still not fully fit, no other changes have been made to a pack who failed to impose their will on a feisty Highlanders eight.

In the backs, Rua Tipoki comes in at second five-eighth to replace Luke McAlister who was also injured in the match against the Highlanders.

First five-eighth Tasesa Lavea is expected to continue the kicking duties he assumed after McAlister left the field early in the match at Carisbrook.

George Pisi, takes Tipoki's spot on the bench, the first time he has made a Blues 22-man playing squad.

The match is shaping up as a crucial encounter for two sides who are winless after two rounds of the Super 14.

Team: Isa Nacewa, Doug Howlett, Anthony Tuitavake, Rua Tipoki, Joe Rokocoko, Tasesa Lavea, Steve Devine, Nick Williams, Daniel Braid, Troy Flavell, Ali Williams, Greg Rawlinson, John Afoa, Keven Mealamu (captain), Tony Woodcock: Tim Dow, Saimone Taumoepeau, Kurtis Haiu, Anthony Boric, John Senio, Vili Waqaseduadua, George Pisi.
