Australians name new-look sevens squad for Paris and London
May 19, 2006

A new-look Australian Rugby Sevens team has been chosen for the Paris and London Sevens, with the inclusion of Queensland Reds Super 14 players Tim Atkinson, Julian Huxley and Henari Veratau in the team.

Atkinson and Huxley have great Sevens credentials, having both played in the victorious Australian side that took out the Brisbane Sevens in 2002. Atkinson was the star in the final against New Zealand at Ballymore that day, scoring two tries to help Australia to a comprehensive 28-0 victory.

Also named in the team for the final two legs of the IRB Sevens Series are Lachlan Rosengreen and AJ Gilbert who played in the Australian Under 19s team that took out the World Championship in April.

Coach Glen Ella said the injection of some new players would be be a boost for the team.

"Now that the Super 14 is over we have more players available which will add a wealth of experience to the team," Ella said.

"It is also exciting to have Lachlan and AJ in the team. You need to be an all-round player to play Sevens rugby, so it will be beneficial to the young guys' development."
