Kanaar out for four months
June 30, 2006

HSBC Waratahs lock Alex Kanaar will spend the next four months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery to repair his injured left ankle.

The Wallaby squad member had been a feature of Sydney University's solid opening to the Tooheys New Cup before suffering ankle cartilage damage in the match against Warringah at fortnight ago.

"Alex underwent an arthroscopy on Thursday which revealed a fracture to the talar dome in his left ankle" HSBC Waratahs chief medical officer Sharron Flahive said.

"At this point we're looking at him being able to run by the end of September, with a return to the field possible four weeks after that."

Kanaar will spend the next week on crutches before starting the recovery process, which going well should see him back to full fitness in time for the Wallabies spring tour of Europe.
