Millfield skipper signs for Bath
December 6, 2006

Bath Rugby's commitment to developing players of the future continues, with the signing of Academy player Edward Jackson on a full-time contract.

The 18-year-old is currently in his final year of A Levels at Millfield School, and his two-year contract will run from the summer of 2007.

Jackson already has strong ties with Bath Rugby, for as well as being a member of the Academy, his father Mark is Chief Executive of Helphire Group plc, which this season became a major sponsor of Bath Rugby.

Jackson plays at Number 8 and is captain of Millfield's First XV, where he is coached by former Bath prop Jon Mallett. He was part of the England U18 squad that won the Four Nations title for the first time last season.

Frank Butler, the Academy Manager, said: "Edward is an intelligent footballer who understands and reads the game very well. I first saw him play for Somerset U16s three years ago, and he has been training with the Academy ever since. We have liaised closely with Jon Mallett in Edward's development, and are delighted to have signed him full-time."
