Tune not concerned by trial form
January 19, 2007

The QR Queensland Reds have put the finishing touches on their preparations for tomorrow's trial match against Samoa at Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast.

Ben Tune, Caleb Brown and James Horwill will join the 23-man squad that faced the Auckland Blues on Wednesday.

Brown has rated himself only a 50% chance of playing, but he has a hamstring strain and won't be risked if he isn't fit.

For Tune, the match will be his first hit out of the season and says fans shouldn't be too concerned with this week's loss to a star-studded Auckland side.

"The last couple of seasons we've done pretty well in trial games and had ordinary seasons so I wouldn't read too much into trial form," Tune said.

Tune said the team's focus was more on getting the process right than on the final score.

"We're not particularly here to win trial games, we just want to keep improving and make sure that we're starting to get some combinations together and start to understand how each other play."

"Don't get me wrong, winning's an important habit to get into and obviously with a competition like the Super 14 that's been and gone before you blink your eyes you want to start winning early.

"So we're definitely going out there to win but it's probably not the number one priority. The number one priority is to play really well and to start putting all the stuff we've done on the training paddock together on the field."

Coach Eddie Jones will wait until before the match tomorrow to name his starting line-up due to the short turnaround between matches, but again will be using the reserve bench extensively to give everyone game time.

The QR Queensland Reds squad for the Manu Samoa game is: Geoff Abram, Ole Avei, Berrick Barnes, Nic Berry, Andrew Brown, Caleb Brown, Quade Cooper, Ben Coutts, David Croft, Charlie Fetoai, Will Genia, AJ Gilbert, Sean Hardman, James Horwill, Herman Hunt, Peter Hynes, Lloyd Johansson, Tom McVerry, Ed O'Donoghue, John Roe, Clinton Schifcofske, Cameron Treloar, Ben Tune, Brando Va'alu, Henari Veratau, Gavin Warren.
