Waratahs hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau has been boosted by the news an elbow injury sustained against the Western Force won't require surgery.

Polota-Nau underwent scans today and after consulting with surgeons was told he would not need to undergo an arthroscopy, which could have ruled him out for up to six weeks.

Instead the Wallaby hooker will be given a week to recover with a view to being fit for the clash with the Stormers on March 17.

"This is a very positive outcome," HSBC Waratahs head coach Ewen McKenzie said.

"Tatafu could have been facing a month or more on the sidelines.

"Instead he can focus on getting strength back before returning to the paddock next week."

The team to play the Bulls at Aussie Stadium on Saturday will be named Tuesday.
