"It feels good to have the first match - and win - under our belts." England 7s skipper Simon Amor reports from Hong Kong for scrum.com

The score of 38-7 against hosts Hong Kong was a bit flattering towards us as they are a good side and were fit and fast. The opening match in a tournament is always tough and several of the boys who haven't played sevens for a while found it particularly tough. I was pleased with our performance despite us definitely having some areas to work on but I am positive that we have the potential to be very good by the end of the tournament.

It was good to see former England Sevens players like Danny Care and Dave Seymour play so well - they were part of the silver medal winning squad at last year's Commonwealth Games and it is good to have them back in the squad. At the same time the youngsters did well. Tom Williams scored our first try and showed great pace - hopefully he will continue that with more tries tomorrow. I was pleased that Jack Adams got a run on as well to earn his first cap.

It is still incredibly humid here which makes the playing conditions even tougher but I guess it is the same for all the teams. Hong Kong is different from the other legs of the IRB Sevens as it is staged over three days but I quite like the fact that you are eased in gently with one match today and then two games tomorrow.

We continued our usual tradition of travelling to the match on the famous star ferry. This is a great way to travel to the stadium but the main reason for our mode of transport is to try and minimise the amount of time we are sat in stationary Hong Kong traffic jams! There are always a few double takes from fans and commuters as they ask if we really are the England team!

The stadium was only about half full tonight but the atmosphere was still electric. There really is nowhere like Hong Kong in terms of the noise of the crowd. However, when we play Hong Kong there is a bit of a conflict of interests for the crowd and they seem to cheer for both teams. In fact there were some boos when we scored a couple of our tries against the host nation, but there was still fantastic support from the moment we ran out to warm up. I know all the players experience the same buzz of excitement and anticipation when we are standing in the tunnel.

We face Korea and Argentina tomorrow - both tough in different ways. Tonight the French lost to USA which was great news for the sevens game showing just how so called developing rugby nations like the USA are becoming stronger and able to overcome the more traditional rugby sides. We shared a dressing room with the French today and they were gutted with the result but all it does is hit home to us how important it is to go out and win every match. We can't afford to lose in this tournament.

Watch England in their only home tournament at Twickenham in the Emirates Airline London Sevens on 26th & 27th May. Tickets from PS10 from Ticketmaster.
