Kanaar on road to recovery

Wallaby and HSBC Waratahs second rower Al Kanaar has taken his first tentative steps towards recovery since sustaining a near season ending knee injury in January.

Kanaar underwent a knee reconstruction after playing just one minute of trial Rugby against the Brumbies in Wollongong.

Today he ran for the first time with Waratah Rehabilitation Coordinator Charlie Higgins.

"I was a bit nervous actually but it's a good first step and I'm looking forward to increasing the workload," said Kanaar.

"I've already put the weight back on thanks to Charlie's recovery programme so hopefully I'll be back playing soon."

Waratahs team doctor, Sharron Flahive says the recovery target is not far away.

"Typically it's 6 months from surgery to recovery and that places Al's comeback at the end of July," said Dr Flahive.

"I'll be very happy if Al is back in two months considering he recently had an arthroscopy."

Centre Morgan Turinui is also progressing well after sustaining medial ligament damage in a training run during the Super 14 season.

"It's coming along well and I'm optimistic about a return in a fortnight," said Turinui.
