The SA Emerging team, coach by Peter de Villiers and Jerome Paarwater, has clinched the IRB Nations Cup trophy after beating Argentina A 24-10 in their final match in Bucharest, Romania, earlier tonight.

SA Emerging ended the tournament undefeated, beating Romania 61-7 in their opening match on Tuesday, June 5, before edging out Georgia 24-7 in their second match last Sunday.

But despite their two wins before Saturday's match, the final game was always going to be a true test against the renowned scrummaging power of Argentina A, who beat Italy 27-20 in their opener, before sweeping aside Namibia 47-13 last Sunday.

The SA Emerging team recovered well in the second half to seal a great team effort and a deserved win, after the Argentina A-team led 10-6 at halftime.

Flying winger Tonderai Chavhanga scored a brace of tries while Peter Grant continued to impress with his kicking, converting four penalties. He also converted a try.

The SA Emerging team impressed throughout the 11-day tournament under the leadership of Vodacom Western Province hooker Schalk Brits, who was able to call upon the likes of capped Springboks Bevin Fortuin, Jaco Pretorius, Tonderai Chavhanga, Meyer Bosman, Hilton Lobberts, Kabamba Floors, Solly Tyibilika and Eddie Andrews.

Promising like Ashton Constance, Bandise Maku, Sangoni Mxoli, Nikolai Blignaut, Jano Vermaak, Louis Ludik, Marius Delport, Jonathan Mokuena and Howard Noble all served notice of their undoubted potential, which, hopefully, they will be able to enhance even more come the start of the 2007 Absa Currie Cup next weekend.

Earlier in the day Georgia picked up their second victory with a 22-20 defeat of Italy A in the opening match.

Romania then secured a 28-16 victory over Namibia. The results mean that both Italy A and Namibia end the tournament without a victory.
