Retired All Blacks lock Keith Robinson has been quick to find his niche in the rugby coaching ranks.

Robinson was today named lineout coach for the Chiefs in next year's Super 14 competition and will take up the role next month.

Ongoing knee problems forced Robinson, 30, to retire from all rugby as a player two months ago, ending an injury-plagued career.

He said at the time he would pursue his business, running a gym in Te Aroha, but also wanted to keep his options open in rugby.

He played 20 games for both Thames Valley and Taranaki before making his Waikato debut in 2002, going on to have 29 games for the province and 42 games for the Chiefs.

The last of his 12 tests was in the All Blacks' quarterfinal loss to France in Cardiff in October.

Meanwhile, another change announced today at the Chiefs saw Tony Hanks resign as assistant coach.

Hanks recently succeeded Warren Gatland as coach of Waikato and has stood down from the Chiefs role to focus fully on the provincial role.

Former Waikato prop Craig Stevenson remains as the sole Cheifs assistant to head coach Ian Foster.
