Full-back Arscott signs for two more years
January 21, 2008

Bristol full-back Luke Arscott has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

Luke joined Bristol Rugby from Plymouth Albion in the summer of 2006 and was joined at the club by younger brother Tom a year later.

After a knee injury disrupted his early progress, Luke made the number 15 shirt his own in the latter part of the 2006-7 season and has continued in that vein in 2007-8 making eleven starts to date and scoring three tries.

Of particular note has been the partnership he has forged with Tom which was evidenced in the game against London Wasps in December where the pair scored all three of Bristol's tries.

Luke was delighted to have secured his future at Bristol when he signed the contract today:

"I'm very happy. It's a real weight off my mind and I can concentrate on playing now. There's a good bunch of boys here and it's a great place to live.

"I got off to a slower start than I would have wanted when I first joined the club but I've had a run in the side recently which has helped me and I think has helped the team as well.

"Now I want to play my part in taking the club forward and, if possible, further my own international claims."

Head coach Richard Hill admitted that he had been keen to get Luke to sign a new deal:

"Luke is an outstanding young player with great potential. He has natural flair which is exciting to watch and as he gains further 1st XV experience, I am sure he will develop into a very fine full-back for Bristol."
