The International Rugby Board has announced the Match Officials for the Tri Nations, which kicks off on July 5.

The appointments come after SANZAR's decision to play the competition under the IRB's Experimental Law Variations (ELVs). Therefore the match officials appointed to the nine Tri Nations matches have all officiated matches under the ELVs employed during the recent Super 14 competition in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Australia's Stuart Dickinson will take charge of the opening match between New Zealand and South Africa in Wellington on July 5. Six further referees from the southern hemisphere will preside over matches in Craig Joubert, Jonathan Kaplan, Marius Jonker, Bryce Lawrence, Lyndon Bray and Matt Goddard.

"The IRB Match Official Selection Committee waited until the outcome of SANZAR's discussions as to whether the Tri Nations would be played under the ELVs before selecting the panel of officials for the Tournament," explained IRB Referee Manager Paddy O'Brien.

"As the matches will be played under the ELVs as approved by IRB Council at its meeting in May, it was important that we selected match officials with relevant experience of the ELVs that will apply, hence the appointment of an all southern hemisphere panel," added O'Brien.
