England will play South Africa and Wales will face New Zealand in the semi-finals of the IRB Junior World Championship following another dramatic day of action.

Leigh Halfpenny was Wales' hero against France in Swansea with the match-winning try eight minutes into added time at the end of the second half. France had looked on course to face New Zealand in Newport on Wednesday, June 18 when they led 19-9 with two minutes remaining on the clock.

But the Welsh fans in the Liberty Stadium were given renewed hope when Wales were awarded a penalty try two minutes from time, before Halfpenny sealed a remarkable comeback and 23-19 victory.

Earlier in the day, Miles Benjamin scored his second try with two minutes remaining to edge England past Australia 18-13 in front of more than 3,000 noisy fans at Rodney Parade in Newport.

In Wrexham, South Africa were given the fright of their lives by Samoa before Stefan Watermeyer's try after 78 minutes eased them to a 16-11 win and top spot in Pool B.

Pre-tournament favourites New Zealand marched into the semi-finals, defeating Argentina 60-0 in Pool A at Cardiff Arms Park.

In the other matches on the final day of the pool stages there were also wins for Scotland, Ireland, Canada and Italy.
