Luke Gross, the most capped US Eagles player of all-time, has decided to call time on his rugby career.

The Indiana-born lock made his decision today after not taking part in Doncaster Knights' pre-season programme due to injury.

The 38-year-old made his Test debut against Ireland in 1996 and went on to play 62 times for his country, as well as appearing for Harlequins and Newcastle Falcons in the Premiership.

Knights director of rugby Lynn Howells commented: "I respect Luke's decision to follow a new path, this is a sad day for us all as he is as important off the pitch as he is on it with his ability and unique playing style."
