All Blacks flyhalf Dan Carter was officially unveiled by Perpignan today ahead of his six month sabbatical with the French Top 14 club that will begin later this year.

The 26-year-old star, who will link up with his new club in December following New Zealand's tour of the British Isles, arrived in Barcelona on Sunday night where he was greeted by journalists and photographers.

Carter, who agreed a reported 700,000 euros (£560,000) deal earlier this year with the blessing of the New Zealand Rugby Union, was unveiled at a press conference at Perpignan's Stade Aime-Giral on Monday evening.

"I am here just to meet some people and complete some administrative steps," said Carter at the start of a four-day whistle stop tour. "And especially to discover this beautiful city of Perpignan which I have heard so much about.

"I am happy to have finally arrived. It is very exciting. It is whetting my appetite for what awaits me at Perpignan," added the highly-rated No.10.

His first match for his new club is likely to be against Leicester Tigers in the Heineken Cup on December 6.

As a result he will miss next year's Super 14 campaign with the Crusaders but will return to New Zealand in June to join the All Blacks for the start of their home season.

Perpignan are currently second in the French Top 14 championship having won four of their five matches including Saturday's tight 5-3 win against Montpellier.
