Ireland and Canada will meet for the first time in eight years on Saturday night when the two sides go head-to-head at Thomond Park.

They have only met three times before with Ireland notching two victories and their last clash being drawn. The sides first met during the inaugural Rugby World Cup that saw the Irish record a thumping 46-19 victory at Carisbrook thanks to tries from Keith Crossan (2), Hugo MacNeil, Trevor Ringland and Michael Bradley.

The second meeting came ten years later at Lansdowne Road when again the Irish triumphed comfortably - once again running in five tries with Kevin Nowlan (2), Kevin Maggs, Conor McGuinness and Victor Costello all dotting down.

Their latest clash at Fletcher's Field in Markham in 2000 proved more successful for Canada where the under-strength Irish snatched a 27-27 draw. The tourists trailed 21-8 at half-time and needed a Ronan O'Gara penalty kick in the final minute to escape what would have been an embarrassing loss.
