Scotland stalwart Chris Paterson has set his sights on playing in a fourth Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in 2011.

The 30-year-old fullback, capped a record 90 times by his country, is also determined to extend his Test points record by playing on until the sport's next global showpiece.

Paterson is currently recovering from a rib injury and as Scotland coach Frank Hadden readies his squad for this year's Six Nations Championship, his No.1 goal kicker has laughed off rumours his international career is coming to an end.

"Tests actually prove I am in better condition than I have ever been in," he told the Daily Record. "I still feel fit and I'd love to be involved in the next World Cup. I am always striving to improve and my desire is still there."

Paterson also admitted that last month's pool draw - that paired the Scots alongside England and Argentina and two further qualifier - had given him an extra incentive to remain part of the Scotland set-up over the next three years.

"It's good to avoid the big three from the southern hemisphere and we are more familiar with England, who we beat in the last Six Nations campaign. We also had a good away win over Argentina in the summer. It's a long way off but we will need to win at least one of those games, if not both, so it's a big task for us."

And Paterson has backed Hadden to continue to lay a secure platform for success in New Zealand. "A lot of the experienced guys are still young, Ally Hogg is up near 50 caps and he's only 25."
