  • Thom and Max Evans have provided Glasgow with a boost by signing new contracts with the Magners League side until 2011. Both brothers have starred for Scotland during the Six Nations and Glasgow have moved quickly to secure their services for coming seasons.

Centre Max had negotiated a new deal as recently as December 2008 but the club agreed to re-open talks with him at the same time as winger Thom, whose old deal expired at the end of the season.

  • England wing Paul Sackey will miss Sunday's Six Nations match-up against France after failing to recover from an ankle injury picked up during England's loss to Ireland. Sackey has been unable to train this week and was one of 13 players released back to their clubs by Martin Johnson on Tuesday night. Johnson will announce his starting side for the game on Wednesday afternoon.

England players released to clubs: Steffon Armitage (London Irish), Olly Barkley (Gloucester), George Chuter (Leicester Tigers), Danny Cipriani (London Wasps), Louis Deacon (Leicester Tigers), Ben Foden (Northampton Saints), Luke Narraway (Gloucester), Jamie Noon (Newcastle Falcons), Olly Morgan (Gloucester), Tim Payne (London Wasps), Paul Sackey (London Wasps), David Strettle (Harlequins), David Wilson (Newcastle Falcons)

  • Scotland tight-head Euan Murray has signed a new two-year del with Guinness Premiership side Northampton Saints, keeping him at Franklin's Gardens until 2012.

Murray joined the Saints in 2007 and has made 32 appearances for the club while making the Scotland No.3 shirt his own. Tipped by many as the front-runner for the British and Irish Lions tight-head berth the signing is a huge boost for the Saints as they look to consolidate their place in the Premiership.

"I am extremely delighted that Euan has signed another contract with the Saints," said Northampton director of rugby Jim Mallinder. "International class tight-head props are few and far between and Euan is a player who falls firmly in that category."

  • New Zealand have been offered an immediate chance to gain revenge over Wales after their elimination at their hands in the Rugby World Cup Sevens as they have been drawn in the same pool for the IRB World Sevens Series event in Adelaide from April 3-5.

New Zealand and Wales were drawn alongside Tonga and the USA in pool C while host nation Australia are in pool A alongside England, Samoa and Portugal. Argentina head pool B alongside Fiji, France and Scotland and South Africa, Kenya, Cook Islands and Japan make up pool D

  • Newcastle Falcons have secured the signature of promising scrum-half Micky Young on a two-year deal. Young, 20, has been instrumental in turning the Falcons' season around in recent games and has also represented England at U18 and Sevens level.

  • ERC have announced the referees for the up-coming Heineken Cup and European Challenge Cup quarter-finals, to be played between April 9-12.
