  • Former New Zealand star Jonah Lomu has become the latest international rugby star to throw his weight behind Rugby's campaign for Olympic Games re-inclusion.

"It would be fantastic for Rugby and fantastic for the Games," said the winger who won a Sevens gold medal with New Zealand at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

"Playing the Commonwealth Games ranks as one of my greatest memories and it opened my eyes to what it must be like as a part of the Olympic family. It was something I savoured and I just wish I could have competed for an Olympic Gold medal."

  • The British and Irish Lions will kick off their tour to South Africa with a game against a Royal XV, a composite side made up of players from Griquas, Leopards, Griffons, Valke and Pumas. There will also possibly be the inclusion of players from the Blue Bulls side should there be a shortage in key positions. The game will take place in Rustenberg on May 30.

  • Australia prop Ben Alexander has re-signed with the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) and the Brumbies for the next two years. Alexander, who has four Test caps to his name, said: "It was an easy decision really. It was something I wanted to get locked away early so I could focus on the season and given that I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Brumbies so far, there was no reason to look anywhere else."

  • Mils Muliaina says the re-signing of a clutch of All Blacks team mates is encouraging but won't sway his final decision about playing rugby at home or overseas next year.

Muliaina, 28, comes off contract at the end of this year and is among the key targets of the New Zealand Rugby Union to put pen to paper. "The desire to play in the next World Cup is definitely there but there are always different pros and cons," he said.

"If it was a decision made purely on myself it would be pretty easy. But now I have got a young family I have to start thinking about them and not making a selfish decision."
