  • The Australian Rugby Union are investigating a potential breach of team protocol, although haven't confirmed which team or who the 'inquiries' actually involve.

Reports on Wednesday suggested that four leading players could be involved in the incident although the issue at this point remains shrouded in mystery.

"We're currently conducting inquiries into potential breaches around team protocol and/or the code of conduct," an ARU spokesman said.

"At this stage those inquiries are continuing.

"We won't be commenting further or going into detail while we're doing that."

  • All Blacks captain Richie McCaw could get a run in club rugby before he makes his return to test action in the Tri-Nations next month.

The openside flanker has made good progress in his recovery from a knee injury sustained late in the Super 14 five weeks ago and at a push could have even featured this weekend against Italy.

McCaw, who has run carefully at most All Blacks training sessions this month, is almost certain to lead the squad of 30 named on July 5, ahead of the first test of the tournament against Australia in Auckland on 18 July.

The squad will go into camp in Wellington from 8-9 July but Henry thinks that additional games at club level could be useful for players returning from injury.

"That's a decision for all the guys to make," Henry said.

"If they think they need the (club) game to play a top quality game in the first Tri-Nations test, they need to do that.

"We're never negative about that. If they say yes, then we support it."

  • The fixtures for the 2009-10 Guinness Premiership season have been released and the opening weekend throws up a number of mouthwatering clashes commencing in September.

Bryan Redpath's coaching tenure at Gloucester begins with an exciting fixture as they take on their traditional West Country rivals, Bath, in front of what should be a sell-out crowd while newly promoted Leeds Carnegie start their campaign against fellow northerners Newcastle Falcons.

The four London clubs will be starting the season with a Double Header at Twickenham in a day that's already seen 25,000 tickets already sold.

Last season's losing finalists London Irish start as the away team to take on Saracens while London Wasps are the other home team and play Harlequins who make the short trip from their base at the nearby Twickenham Stoop.

The reamining opening fixtures sees Jim Mallinder's Northampton Saints take on Worcester Warriors and the Sale Sharks, under the new coaching partnership of Kingsley Jones and Jason Robinson, meet reigning Premiership champions Leicester Tigers.

  • Saracens have released David Seymour with immediate effect. He made his debut in 2004 and went on to make 105 appearances in Saracens colours.

  • Stade Francais have signed Nottingham scrum-half Charlie Davies.

The 19-year-old played six times for the National One side last season, scoring one try and heads to Paris for pre-season training in July.

"It's only just sunk in that I'm going to be playing for Stade next season because I have just been over to sign my contract," he said.

"I will be mainly playing Under-23s but I hope to get into the first team there," he added.
