The Gold Coast and Port Elizabeth have been confirmed as new legs on the IRB Sevens World Series from next year, replacing Adelaide and George on the calendar.

The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) announced on Wednesday that Skilled Park - the home of the Gold Coast Titans rugby league club and football's Gold Coast United - would be the venue for the next four years.

Australia's iconic tourist destination will hold the first tournament of the 2011-12 series in November after being selected ahead of bids from Adelaide, Perth and Sydney.

"We know events like Dubai, Hong Kong and Wellington all put on a show that attracts people from around the world and we are confident that the decision to host this tournament on the Gold Coast will deliver another exciting opportunity for fans to enjoy international Sevens," ARU chief executive John O'Neill said.

The South African Rugby Union (SARU) handed their leg of the series to the Eastern Cape, with a December tournament slated to draw big crowds to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. The Eastern Province bid was selected over applications from the Leopards, Pumas, South Western Districts and Western Province.

"Port Elizabeth and the whole of the Eastern Cape will be very excited about this decision and we can now begin to mobilise to deliver a memorable experience for the international rugby family," Eastern Province chief Cheeky Watson said. "I'd like to thank the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality for their assistance in preparing the bid and advise my team that the hard work starts today."
