Ben Ryan has been appointed the new head coach of the Fiji Sevens side on a contract that takes him up to the 2016 Olympic Games.

Ryan left his post in charge of England in August after six years in the role and Fiji have wasted no time in grabbing him to head up their prestigious side. Ryan led England to five tournaments during his time in charge of the team but never took the prestigious IRB World Series title.

"The Fiji Rugby Union has today announced the appointment of Ben Ryan as the new Fiji 7s head coach," A statement on fijirugby.com said. "Ryan accepted the offer after the FRU board contacted him last night.

"There will be a transition period of one month in England for Ryan and he is expected to be in the country for the Fiji Water Centennial International 7s next month. Ryan will also take the team for the first leg of the 2013-2014 IRB World 7s Series at the Gold Coast in Australia.

"During his appointment Ryan will be required to develop local coaches and the game in the 7s code throughout the country. His appointment is for three years and will be till the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio."
