England Sevens have been hit by a double blow with both Chris Cracknell and Mathew Turner facing lengthy spells on the sidelines after sustaining injuries in the Gold Coast leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

Turner, the top try-scorer in last year's World Series, broke his right ankle in England's 13-10 pool stage win over Spain. And Cracknell has suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury sustained in the same match.

It is unclear how long the duo will be out and the news will compound a disappointing weekend for the Sevens team. England failed to progress from their pool after beating Spain, drawing with Kenya and then losing to Samoa.

England ended up finishing tenth in the Sevens after losing their Bowl Final 19-14 against Spain in sudden death extra-time . They were without Turner and Cracknell for the tie and had two more players sidelined. Tom Powell didn't reappear after the tournament's opening match following a bang on the head and John Brake (ankle) was also ruled out.
