Johns and Bell back for Ulster
August 30, 2000

Paddy johns and Jonathan Bell are both included in the Ulster side to face Munster in Friday night's Guinness Interprovincial opener against Munster after having missed part of the pre-season build up.

Both players underwent operations, Johns on his back and Bell on his hand, during the close season, but made a successful return to Ulster's colours in the final warm up games against Edinburgh Reivers and Rugby.

Bells return means that there is no place on the side for Shane Stewart, who had formed an effective partnership with Ryan Constable during the pre-season games.

Newcomer Brad free wins the race to partner David Humphreys from Stephen Bell while in the pack Russell nelson will play on the blind side. Although he prefers open side the South African, who is Irish qualified, has played at six since Dion O'Cunneagian was ruled out for the season with a wrist injury.

Ulster side: Grant Henderson; James Topping, Ryan Constable, Jonathan Bell, Tyrone Howe; David Humphreys, Brad Free; Tony McWhirter, Andy Ward, Russell Nelson; Gary Longwell, Paddy Johns; Clem Boyd, Richie Weir, Justin Fitzpatrick.
Replacements: Stephen Bell, Niall Malone, Shane Stewart, Simon Best, Paul Shields, Mark Blair, Derek Topping.
