Australia, NZ produce a thriller to cap day on

World Rugby has confirmed it is investigating whether New Zealand had eight players on the pitch during their dramatic 17-all draw with Australia at the Sydney 7s on Saturday.

Hurricanes star Ardie Savea scored with the last play of the game with the conversion then sealing the All Blacks 7s a draw, and top spot in Pool A.

But video footage later suggested New Zealand may have eight players on the field at the time, prompting the governing body to launch its investigation.

The result will stand regardless of the outcome of that investigation, meaning New Zealand will still face the United States, and Australia will battle England, in the Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.

The investigation will determine if any disciplinary action is required.
