South Africa took a stranglehold of the IRB Sevens World Series after retaining the Adelaide Sevens title with a 26-7 win over their African rivals Kenya. South Africa are now well clear at the top of the table, with 104 points to England's 76 and Fiji's 74.

Having lost to the Kenyans during the Pool stages, top seeds South Africa made no mistake in the final. Paul Treu's men were ahead almost immediately through Robert Ebersohn, who scored after just 28 seconds, but Kenya proved spiky competitors on the occasion of their first-ever Cup final.

Having overcome San Diego Sevens winners Argentina in the quarter-finals and World Cup-winners Wales, Kenya struck back with a try from Humphrey Kayange. Vuyo Zangqa restores South Africa's lead soon after however, and the second-half proved to be one-way traffic. South Africa were brimming with confidence after overpowering New Zealand in the quarter-finals and Hong Kong winners Fiji in the semis, and their performance reflected this confidence.

With a strong marking job on Kenya's Collins Injera, the South African side dominated possession. A superb solo effort from Ryno Benjamin extended their lead after eight hard-fought minutes of the second-half and Renfred Dazel added a fourth try to end Kenya's game resistance.

Earlier, England defeated hosts Australia to claim the Plater competition while Samoa claimed the bowl after defeating France in the final.
