  • New Zealand have been hit by two more injury blows in the wake of their 27-22 defeat to France in Dunedin.

Flanker Adam Thomson broke a bone in his right hand during the game and will be sidelined for six weeks while hooker Andrew Hore suffered a blow to the ribs and is "touch and go" to start the second test at Wellington on Saturday.

Crusaders flanker George Whitelock and Chiefs hooker Aled de Malmanche - both uncapped - will join the squad as cover, giving the national side an even more raw appearance.

"That's just the nature of the beast. We can't use that as an excuse, we just have to soldier on and do the best we can," said assistant coach Steve Hansen. "There are some things we can do a lot better that will make us perform a lot better that's got nothing to do with injuries. The people we put on the track just have to work hard and get things right.

"We just got outmuscled and that's not easy to stomach really. Now we'll see what they've got deep down inside them. Most rugby people understand we're under the pump a bit in terms of personnel we pick from. There will be the odd one that will be hysterical I suppose but there's no point worrying about that.

"All the senior guys will come back eventually and when that happens, we're going to have a lot more depth. I don't think it's all doom and gloom."

The under-strength All Blacks went into Saturday's Test missing 10 leading players including Richie McCaw, Rodney So'oialo, Ali Williams and Dan Carter.

  • Bath have announced the signing of South African international Luke Watson on a two year deal.

The versatile Watson, capped 10 times by the Springboks, can play in all three back row positions and will join the club from Western Province after the Currie Cup season.

"Playing in the Cape for WP and the Stormers has been and remains a privilege. We still have some unfinished business in this year's ABSA Currie Cup and I will be giving my all to help ensure a successful season for the team and the Newlands faithful," said Watson who led his side against the British & Irish Lions in Cape Town on Saturday.

Bath Rugby head coach, Steve Meehan added, "Luke Watson is a very talented rugby player and an experienced leader who is yet to reach his peak. We are very happy to have him arriving at Bath, even though we may have to wait until November. We are certain he will have a huge impact."

  • The International Rugby Board has announced the line-up of teams for the Rugby Sevens tournament at this year's World Games in Kaohsiung.

South Africa, the IRB Sevens World Series champions, will be joined in the eight-team, two-day tournament which kicks off on July 24, by Fiji, the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2005 champions and reigning World Games champions, with Argentina, Portugal, USA, Japan, Hong Kong and hosts Chinese Taipei completing the high level line up.

"We firmly believe that the Sevens tournament at the World Games plays an important role in the ongoing development and promotion of Rugby around the world, producing exciting matches and attracting new fans thanks to the remarkable talent of all the international teams competing," said IRB President Bernard Lapasset.

  • Wellington and Hurricanes hooker Ged Robinson will join the Junior All Blacks at the Pacific Nations Cup in Fiji as cover for Waikato's Aled de Malmanche who has been called into the All Blacks squad.

Meanwhile, Waikato and Chiefs mid-field back Callum Bruce will join the team to cover Counties Manukau's Lelia Masaga who joined the All Blacks squad late last week as cover for Rudi Wulf.

De Malmanche has been called into the All Blacks squad as cover for Andrew Hore, who suffered rib cartilage damage in last night's 22-27 loss to France. George Whitelock will replace Adam Thomson, who has been ruled out with a broken bone in his right hand.
