Free practice 3

Welcome to the final practice session ahead of qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix. Reports from the circuit say the track is currently dry but there are some forecasts suggest a thunderstorm will hit the track bang on 10pm and in time for qualifying.

Vettel was fastest in Friday practice by quite some way but both Ferrari and McLaren were bullish about their chances after the second session.

It's hard to bet against Red Bull this weekend, but we've yet to see the best from Alonso so it might be tighter than yesterday's practice suggested. McLaren said it would focus on one-lap pace today after working mainly on long runs yesterday, so expect a more representative time from then over the next hour.

Most drivers will post a quick lap on soft tyres in this session before focusing on set-up for the start of the race i.e. heavy fuel loads.

The track is still damp in places after a thunderstorm earlier today. Most are on slick tyres but the Renaults have opted for intermediates for their installation lap.

Most the cars have returned to the pits as Vettel heads out with intermediate tyres on.

Renault update: "It has rained a lot up to 4pm this afternoon so the track is bound to be a little damp still"

Ferrari says: "Installation lap completed. Felipe reported that the track is still damp in some places but already too dry for intermediate tyres"

Nobody is out on track at the moment. The drivers will be caught in two minds between going out on slicks and waiting for the track to dry.

Hulkenberg is walking between his garage and the pit wall but clearly isn't about to head out anytime soon.

Ferrari says: "No one is running, waiting for the improvement of track conditions"

Still no action but the good news is that my timing screen is working again... As I type, Kobayashi heads out on track.

Kobayashi returns to the pits after one sighter lap. Di Grassi is now the only man out on track.

Di Grassi is out on slicks despite the damp surface. The track is still far from ideal.

Ron Dennis is in the McLaren garage talking to the head race engineer Phil Prew.

Di Grassi has set the fastest lap time but it is way off the pace - 1:56.339.

Alguersuari posts a 1:54.047 but the times will plummet over the next 37 minutes of this session as the track conditions improve.

Vinay asks: "How will Force India fare in S'pore? Will their chances be better if it rains during qualifying?"

This isn't really a track that suits the Force India car. Sutil has been quick round here in the past but he lost a lot of time yesterday after snapping his suspension. I suspect they would welcome a spot of rain in qualifying and the race.

Rishi: "Red Bull claim that they have not changed their front wings to meet the more stringent tests, but have their wings been flexing as much this weekend?"

I haven't seen a Red Bull wing flex properly since Hungary which would suggest they have made a change. But to be fair to the team, it has passed all the tests its come up against.

Massa is running without an F-duct, the only top driver not to run it in this session.

Glenn says: "Ive been under a rock for the last week, any new parts on any of the cars this week ? any updates on the f duct ? who is who isn't etc and can I get in a sneaky Go Webber !"

Red Bull and McLaren have a new front wing as well as some other unspecified updates. Ferrari is running an update of its blown diffuser that Alonso said would suit this circuit. It looks as though Ferrari won't run the F-duct this weekend.

Kubica is now quickest with a 1:50.428, which is still someway off the best time from yesterday.

Rosberg is within 0.097 of Kubica and the top six are split by less than a second.

Schumacher is flinging the car around the circuit and is fastest with a 1:50.1. He said he was really enjoying the challenge of this track yesterday.

Hamilton goes quickest with a 1:49.651 as Senna loses the rear end into the turn 10 chicane. The HRT ends up facing the worng way but there is no major damage to the car.

The track is improving lap-by-lap as Hulkenberg sets a new fastest lap and is immediately beaten by Hamilton with a 1:49.000.

Button is a full second off Hamilton in these conditions and Webber and Vettel are also off the pace of the McLaren.

I think the timing screens have locked so I'll try to keep you up to date.

Just to keep you updated, Webber is using a new engine for the rest of the weekend. He has now used 7 this season, the same amount as Button, Hamilton and Vettel.

Alonso posts a new fastest lap with a 1:48.909 but Vettel is on a fast lap... and the Red Bull goes quickest with a 1:48.730.

Kubica and Alonso come within inches of each other in turn three. Alonso was leaving the pits but Kubica was on a fast lap and didn't want to yield.

Vettel imrpoves with a 1:48.350.

Rosberg locks up under braking at turn 5, runs wide but keeps the engine running and carries on.

Alonso's best time is currently 0.559 off Vettel and Hamilton is 0.650 shy of the fastest time.

Just ten minutes remaining in this session. We should see some soft tyre laps soon.

Lots of cars are now back out on track and attempting to warm up a set of soft tyres for a quick lap.

Hamilton is one of the drivers on soft tyres and he has just started the first lap of a five lap run. However, he has already backed off and will save the tyres for the next run.

Turn five is still very damp and the drivers have no grip on corner entry. If that dries for qualifying we will see much faster laps.

Kubica gets within inches of the wall over the Anderson bridge, holding a huge slide.

Hulkenberg is fastest of all through the first sector and looks set for a quick lap on soft tyres... but he backs off before the final sector. All the cars are out on track and it is very busy out there.

Vettel has found a gap in the traffic and is on a very fast lap. He sets a 1:48.028.

Vettel is very fast through the second and third sectors, Alonso can't get close to him through there in the Ferrari but is quicker in sector one.

Senna has stopped and that will ruin all the other drivers' hot lap. It looks like he misjudged the entry to turn 18 and didn't have enough space to turn his car around.

So that yellow flag meant that a number of the top drivers had their fast lap ruined as they slowed down. But it looks as though the Red Bull is comfortably the fastest.

Make sure you join us for qualifying in two hours time to see who is quickest around the streets of Singapore.
