Richie Vernon began his career with Border Reivers in 2006, making his debut against Northampton in January 2007. But his career really took off the following summer when he moved to Glasgow Warriors.
Having represented Scotland at under-18, 19, 20 and A levels, he went on to make his senior debut against Fiji in November 2009. A year later, he made his starting debut against New Zealand, which was followed by a replacement appearance in the famous win over South Africa and a starting role in the victory against Samoa.
The back-rower continued to play an important role for Glasgow alongside John Barclay and Johnnie Beattie and he was rewarded with a call up to the Scotland squad for the 2011 Six Nations. He came on as a replacement in their Championship opener against France and did enough during his 24-minute cameo to earn himself a start against Wales the following weekend.
And Vernon - after going to the World Cup with Scotland - will join Aviva Premiership side Sale Sharks for the 2011-12 season.
