Andy Robinson is desperate to improve his dismal Six Nations record as Scotland head coach and is targeting wins over both England and Wales in the opening two rounds of the 2012 Championship.

The Englishman has led his sides to just two wins in ten tournament games as boss but he is adamant that next year's campaign will be a success.

When asked by Press Association Sport if he had a set target for the Six Nations, Robinson said: "I do and it's better than that [two wins in ten games], because that's not acceptable.

"It's important that we get off to a very good start in the England and Wales games, that we're able to win those games. That's one of the key focuses for me."

Scotland fans are unlikely to share Robinson's optimism after watching their national side bow out of the Rugby World Cup at the end of the pool stages after defeats to Argentina and England, and laboured wins over Romania and Georgia.

However, Robinson insists that he has learned valuable lessons from Scotland's frustrating campaign in New Zealand.

"It was a huge disappointment," he said. "We're getting this unlucky loser tag having played well, got into winning positions and then lost the game. We've got to be able to break that. It's recognising how we can do that."

Robinson came in for criticism for Scotland's early exit in New Zealand, but his attack coach Gregor Townsend was also slated over the side's dismal return of four tries from four games.

Robinson, though, has every faith in his colleague: "We've been creating opportunities and he's a very good coach. However, the former England boss did admit that he hopes to add to his backroom staff before the start of the Championship.

"We want to bring somebody in with international coaching experience, just to make sure we don't stand still," he said. "I will be looking over the next few months about who we can bring in.

"There are a number of people I've identified and it's about focusing on who would be best in order to move Scotland forward."

Robinson also plans to select a captain who is certain to start every game after his skipper for the World Cup, Alastair Kellock, who was overlooked for the crucial World Cup meeting with Argentina.

"Al's captained the side very, very well and I've been delighted with the way he's operated as a leader," he said. "But you review everything and it wasn't ideal for me not to select him against Argentina.

"If I select a captain I've got to pick him. I fully realise that. The decision will be made around a player that is going to be playing in the team and playing well in the team."
