Wales prop Gethin Jenkins faces a race to be fit for their opening Six Nations clash with Ireland after he missed the start of their preparation camp in Poland.

The 31-year-old suffered a knee injury during Cardiff Blues' victory over Racing Metro in the Heineken Cup on Sunday and on Monday the Welsh Rugby Union confirmed he would remain at home to receive treatment on the injury.

Wales hope Jenkins will be able to join the rest of Warren Gatland's 35-man squad in Gdansk before the end of the week. However with less than two weeks before Wales' opening Six Nations clash with Ireland on February 5, the experienced prop's participation must now be in doubt.

Scarlets fly-half Rhys Priestland and Dragons flanker Dan Lydiate both flew out to Poland with the squad despite continuing their recoveries from respective knee and ankle injuries. Cardiff centre Jamie Roberts will also continue his rehabilitation from a knee injury on Eastern European soil while Clermont Auvergne fullback Lee Byrne has recovered from a thumb injury sustained at the weekend.

The Welsh players were thrown straight into the infamous cryotherapy sessions on arrival at the Olympic sports village and will begin full training on Tuesday.
