England debutant Brad Barritt has described experiencing the camaraderie within the squad which claimed victory over Scotland on Saturday as "emotional and life-changing".

Barritt was one of three debutants in the Murrayfield triumph, and led the way for England with 13 tackles for the match. This exuberance is founded, Barritt says, in a unique bond that is being created amongst the players in Stuart Lancaster's new-look England side.

"I'd say there was a brilliant camaraderie in the squad," Barritt said. "We were spoken to as equals. The management were instrumental in getting these guys to work towards one cause. We spoke about this issue of culture and we definitely think it's a step in the right direction.

"When you're representing your country and having the feeling of everyone behind you and playing with guys you've come together with over a two-week period - it's a really emotional and life-changing experience.

"You could see in guys' eyes that they were hungry and wanted to put their bodies on the line. When you get to that position in a team it's a strong place to be. So each guy was willing to die for the cause.

"What has been really evident in this team is that there has been no sense of guys sticking with their friends from their club. Everyone has been really together. With any new team, getting an early victory builds confidence. We know we can get better but this was great for a first outing and we have something to build on."

Barritt says he has yet to fully comprehend the 13-6 victory, with the centre still stunned by the speed with which his maiden Test passed by as England recorded their first win in Edinburgh since 2004.

"The emotions come over you but it passes by in the blink of an eye. I looked up at the screen and it was 34 minutes gone. It's something I've dreamt of doing since I was a boy," Barritt said.
