The CEO of Pro Rugby Wales Mark Davies has spoken of his disappointment at George North's decision to re-sign with Northampton rather than returning to Wales.

Northampton announced on Thursday they had tied their star winger down on a new contract with his previous deal up in the summer. North was previously linked with a return back to the regional system but he decided to continue his career at the Saints, a call which has disappointed Davies.

"We'd all want to see our best players playing in Wales, why would we want it any different," Davies said on the BBC.

He added: "From the national squad's point of view the coaches are very clear that they fundamentally believe that it is a better environment in terms of player management for the players to be playing in Wales. They can manage them better in conjunction with the regions."
