Profile

Paddy Jackson is a promising up and coming fly-half who has the skills and ability to attack opposition defences but there are still question marks surrounding his positional play and composure.

While he made his debut for Ulster during the 2010-11 campaign, he really came to the fore in the 2011-12 season where he ousted experienced fly-half Ian Humphreys from the province's first XV. It was a memorable season for Jackson with him playing a key role in Ulster's path to the Heineken Cup final.

But on one of rugby's biggest stages, inexperience got the better of Jackson as he and the rest of his team floundered against Leinster. Jackson came in for criticism with him kicking two of his restarts out on the full, but it was against a dominant Leinster side who ran away with their second successive Heineken Cup crown.

Come the 2012-13 season, Jackson had clearly learnt from his hard experience the previous May and he was a key cog in the Ulster team that started the campaign unbeaten. He was mentioned as someone who could perhaps make an impact for Ireland during the 2012 autumn Tests but due to the form of Jonathan Sexton and the presence of veteran Ronan O'Gara, he failed to force his way into the mix.
