Coach Harry Viljoen handed Jantjes his Springboks debut against Italy in 2001 but fell out of favour before forcing his way back into contention during Jake White's reign as the team's boss.
He failed to earn a place in the squad that captured the Rugby World Cup crown in 2007 but found a new lease of life under Peter de Villiers - playing in 13 Test during 2008.
Unfortunately a broken leg suffered while on duty for the Stormers in the latter half of the 2009 Super 14 ruled him out of that year's series against the British & Irish Lions. He is expected to make his playing return in the 2010 Super 14.
In the domestic Currie Cup he spent six seasons with the Golden Lions before switching to his current team, Western Province.
