Dragons prop Rhys Thomas made his Wales debut against Argentina during Wales' summer tour in 2006 after several impressive seasons with Newport and the Dragons.
Thomas' progress was slowed by a heart problem suffered in 2007, limiting him to a handful of appearances for the Dragons during the 2006-07 season. His bad luck did not end there however, as after he was called into the Wales squad to tour Australia in 2007, he damaged ankle ligaments and missed out once again.
He was selected in the starting XV to face South Africa at the Millennium Stadium in November 2007 before starting against Italy during the 2008 Six Nations.
Thomas was included in Warren Gatland's squad for the 2008 autumn internationals and started against Canada.
