England have opted to recall fly-half Toby Flood at the expense of Owen Farrell for the second Test clash with South Africa in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Farrell has paid for a lack of top form with the more experienced Flood partnered with his Leicester team-mate Ben Youngs at scrum-half. Stuart Lancaster has also opted for a new midfield pairing of Manu Tuilagi at inside centre and Jonathan Joseph outside him in the No.13 shirt following an injury to Brad Barritt who will miss the Ellis Park clash following minor eye surgery.
Another injury to fullback Mike Brown has seen Ben Foden return to the No.15 shirt having started on the wing in the 22-17 defeat at Kings Park last weekend.
His spot on the wing is filled by David Strettle after he was a late withdrawal from the side that beat the SA Barbarians 54-26 in Kimberley on Wednesday. Ugo Monye was believed to be in the frame for a Test spot but was struggling with a tight hamstring.
Talking of the decisions behind the team selection, Lancaster said: "I am delighted for JJ [Joseph]. He has trained very well and showed against the Barbarians and in his short time on the field in the first Test that he is ready to make the step to international rugby. To have two 21-year-old centres is exciting and we are looking forward to seeing this combination in action.
"Owen has had a fantastic season and I am sure he will make a significant impact from the bench. However, Toby has waited patiently for his opportunity and the time is right to allow him the chance to demonstrate his experience and skills in what will be a very tough challenge.
"It's a shame for Mike Brown who worked hard to get that Test start but Ben Foden naturally reverts to full back and we return to the wing partnership of David Strettle and Chris Ashton that serves us well in the Six Nations."
